There’s some debate as to the truth of the 10,000-hour rule, but there is definitely truth to the notion that nobody’s born a master at the craft of writing. It takes time, energy, and practice to become a truly proficient and professional writer.

All very good suggestions. I might add that, if you are in a writing group, offer to proofread others’ books. That sometimes helps you (or me, anyway!) catch things I might have missed in my own manuscripts.Also, encouraging younger people to write sometimes helps keep you on your game.
