What is High Concept?
“High Concept” is a phrase that originated in Hollywood, but is now used in the publishing industry as well.
It describes an idea that’s easily pitched in one sentence or phrase, preferably one that can be put into the title.

Ugh… I know it wasn’t stealing, but it still ruined two books for me.
November 2017 I had outlined a story… and found an animated movie that came out just a few months before with all the same details of my plot. It also happened years before that. I was 3/4 finished with a 700 page epic “The Dead of Winter.” At the core of the story was the prophesied “Winter is coming” repeatedly whispered to a young girl. Then I saw a trailer for a new show based on a book I’d never heard of by George RR Martin… Yes really. You could have heard me screaming a mile away. (My friend Barbara Murray calls it “the creative one-mind.”) Both times it completely derailed my writing.

I’ve heard of this happening to other authors as well, Teagan, that’s why I thought Anne’s article might be of some use 🦍🤗❤️❤️🤗🦍
