What if Somebody Steals Your High Concept Book Idea? – by Anne R. Allen…

It describes an idea that’s easily pitched in one sentence or phrase, preferably one that can be put into the title.

  1. Ugh… I know it wasn’t stealing, but it still ruined two books for me.
November 2017 I had outlined a story… and found an animated movie that came out just a few months before with all the same details of my plot. It also happened years before that. I was 3/4 finished with a 700 page epic “The Dead of Winter.” At the core of the story was the prophesied “Winter is coming” repeatedly whispered to a young girl. Then I saw a trailer for a new show based on a book I’d never heard of by George RR Martin… Yes really. You could have heard me screaming a mile away. (My friend Barbara Murray calls it “the creative one-mind.”) Both times it completely derailed my writing.
