on Just Publishing Advice:
You need to find free images for blogs every day, but don’t steal them.
There is a safer and much better way
Of course, you want to use free images for your blog, because paying for stock photos is not economical for most bloggers.
But doing a quick Google image search and downloading the first image that takes your fancy is fraught with danger.
You have to check if there are any copyright restrictions. Very often, there are.
Even with creative commons licensing (cc0 license) there are sometimes restrictions as to how you can use an image. Without carefully reading the attribution required details, you could end up in hot water.
To find free pictures for your next blog post, there are better ways and they are all completely free.
Let’s first look at where you can find free stock photos that are free to use. Then I’ll explain the neat trick you can apply to them.
I get images from Pixabay all the time. One thing I didn’t realize was if you open the image on the site, you can pick the size you want to download. I think the name of the photographer is there too, plus an opportunity to donate (“buy a coffee”). Before I discovered this, I would just save the image from the results page. And Canva is great. As Derek says, they offer tools to combine and enhance images — filters, transparency, a whole lot of fonts for text. It’s easy to use too.
