The Library now has access to the Mass Observation Online database. This is the digital archive of the Mass Observation Archive which contains thousands of documents generatedĀ by the Mass Observation social research organisation from its inception in 1937 to the last submitted diary in 1967. Ā Mass Observation was founded in 1937 by anthropologist Tom Harrisson, film-maker Humphrey Jennings and poet Charles Madge. Their aim was to create an ā€˜anthropology of ourselvesā€™, by recruiting a team of observers and a panel of volunteer writers they studied the everyday lives of ordinary people in Britain.
