I’ve just been advised by Author Jack Eason that the following Facebook Site is offering six of his books in PDF format – WITHOUT AUTHORISATION, PERMISSION OR PAYMENT AGREEMENT WITH HIM…
Please check if YOUR BOOKS are being offered without YOUR permission.
If YES, NOTIFY FACEBOOK IMMEDIATELY…
My attorney warned me not to click on them, but to send a form letter to their server. You can find out their server here: http://www.whois.com/whois/
A copy of the take down form letter to send:
SAMPLE DMCA TAKE DOWN NOTICE
My name is INSERT NAME and I am the INSERT TITLE of INSERT COMPANY NAME. A website that your company hosts (according to WHOIS information) is infringing on at least one copyright owned by my company.
An article was copied onto your servers without permission. The original ARTICLE/PHOTO, to which we own the exclusive copyrights, can be found at:
PROVIDE WEBSITE URL
The unauthorized and infringing copy can be found at:
PROVIDE WEBSITE URL
This letter is official notification under Section 512(c) of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (”DMCA”), and I seek the removal of the aforementioned infringing material from your servers. I request that you immediately notify the infringer of this notice and inform them of their duty to remove the infringing material immediately, and notify them to cease any further posting of infringing material to your server in the future.
Please also be advised that law requires you, as a service provider, to remove or disable access to the infringing materials upon receiving this notice. Under US law a service provider, such as yourself, enjoys immunity from a copyright lawsuit provided that you act with deliberate speed to investigate and rectify ongoing copyright infringement. If service providers do not investigate and remove or disable the infringing material this immunity is lost. Therefore, in order for you to remain immune from a copyright infringement action you will need to investigate and ultimately remove or otherwise disable the infringing material from your servers with all due speed should the direct infringer, your client, not comply immediately.
I am providing this notice in good faith and with the reasonable belief that rights my company owns are being infringed. Under penalty of perjury I certify that the information contained in the notification is both true and accurate, and I have the authority to act on behalf of the owner of the copyright(s) involved.
Should you wish to discuss this with me please contact me directly.
Thank you.

I’ve reported and blocked the page as well. Just found two of my books on there (one of which was only published a couple of weeks ago!) with not far off 2000 downloads between them. I’m not sure whether to be utterly disgusted or take some weird comfort in the fact that this seems to be affecting so many of us.
It’s a slap in the face nonetheless but at least if enough of us know about it, there’s a greater chance of something being done to stop it. Thanks for spreading the word!

David has established through his fraud site links that the site has only been up since 30th January.. Clicking on any of the books only leads you to adverts not the books themselves.. This is where the thievery is hidden in their nonsense terms and conditions…We assume they are trying to get people to pay to be on the site by claiming that there have been 100s of downloads for the books listed and that as an Indie author you will sell books through them.. It is a scam, con and not about books but about those who sign up being parted from their money for a listing.. We have established that the site allegedly is in Canada but that the actual location is PO Box Panama. On no account click on any form to complain or to register… You can check them out at scamadvisor.com The good news is that they are unlikely to have anything of our books except the cover and bit of the blurb stolen off Amazon etc.

Still a mystery I am afraid but hopefully not as we first thought ripping off the actual books.. bad enough and hopefully will get taken down soon if enough people bring to the attention of the spam sites.

Thanks for the warning Chris. I am off to check whether my books are on there now. What I don’t understand (and this, perhaps demonstrates my naievity) is how sites can get hold of books which are Digital Rights Management Protected (DRM) which is supposed to make them difficult to copy/pirate. How do I search to see if my books have been among the pirated?

I suspect you just search your name Stephen, or your book titles…
