#Authors – CONFIRMED COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT NOTIFICATION…

copyright-culprit

I’ve just been advised by Author Jack Eason that the following Facebook Site is offering six of his books in PDF format – WITHOUT AUTHORISATION, PERMISSION OR PAYMENT AGREEMENT WITH HIM…

Please check if YOUR BOOKS are being offered without YOUR permission.

If YES, NOTIFY FACEBOOK IMMEDIATELY…

MESSAGE FROM AUTHOR SUSAN TOY

PLEASE don’t send the complaint forms!!!

This is a click farm that collects your email addresses to sell.

Also, the last time this happened to us and we complained about copyright infringement our computers were infected with a virus.

Block this site on Facebook so that they cannot promote their pirate site there.

With all of us reporting the site it will get taken down.

DO NOT SEND YOUR PROOF OF

COPYRIGHT TO THIS SITE

NEVER TRUST THIEVES!!!

Do NOT send your proof of copyright to this site! Instead, send a takedown request to Facebook.

A sample takedown request was provided by S.K. Nicholls in the comment section of this blog post by Chris the Story Reading Ape. I have reproduced it here:

My attorney warned me not to click on them, but to send a form letter to their server. You can find out their server here: http://www.whois.com/whois/
A copy of the take down form letter to send:
    SAMPLE DMCA TAKE DOWN NOTICE
My name is INSERT NAME and I am the INSERT TITLE of INSERT COMPANY NAME. A website that your company hosts (according to WHOIS information) is infringing on at least one copyright owned by my company.
An article was copied onto your servers without permission. The original ARTICLE/PHOTO, to which we own the exclusive copyrights, can be found at:
    PROVIDE WEBSITE URL
The unauthorized and infringing copy can be found at:
    PROVIDE WEBSITE URL
This letter is official notification under Section 512(c) of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (”DMCA”), and I seek the removal of the aforementioned infringing material from your servers. I request that you immediately notify the infringer of this notice and inform them of their duty to remove the infringing material immediately, and notify them to cease any further posting of infringing material to your server in the future.
Please also be advised that law requires you, as a service provider, to remove or disable access to the infringing materials upon receiving this notice. Under US law a service provider, such as yourself, enjoys immunity from a copyright lawsuit provided that you act with deliberate speed to investigate and rectify ongoing copyright infringement. If service providers do not investigate and remove or disable the infringing material this immunity is lost. Therefore, in order for you to remain immune from a copyright infringement action you will need to investigate and ultimately remove or otherwise disable the infringing material from your servers with all due speed should the direct infringer, your client, not comply immediately.
I am providing this notice in good faith and with the reasonable belief that rights my company owns are being infringed. Under penalty of perjury I certify that the information contained in the notification is both true and accurate, and I have the authority to act on behalf of the owner of the copyright(s) involved.
Should you wish to discuss this with me please contact me directly.
    Thank you.

Please read the comments on the original blog post to understand the extent of this piracy and the danger of sending your copyright proof to this site.

  2. After I shared this on my blog, they blocked me (I have never used their site). Chris, I am going to refer anyone who contacts me with questions to your blog, if you don’t mind.

    • Refer them to my article AND the comments under it Michelle – it will be interesting to see if I’m blocked as well (I had reported them to FB as Spam, acting against copyright and illegal after checking them out and posting the warning to everyone…

    AUTHORS BEWARE! COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT ALERT!

Can you believe it? This website is posting many of my dear author friends’ eBooks away for FREE, with no permission from them!

I did,’t expect to find my own little mid-grade, Silver Lightning, on here but… there it is! Please take a look at this blog post to see if yours are on there too and take action!

  4. Small update: They’re obviously panicking and deleting the majority of the books they offer. Both of mine have now disappeared from their site, including a few others I’d seen on there.

Granted, they (or others like them) will undoubtedly wait for the dust to settle before re-uploading the stolen files somewhere else, but at least this proves that with enough man power, we can stop things like this. I suppose we all just need to stay vigilant and spread the word when we catch wind of something fraudulent.

    • Judging by the reactions to my post, they must be wondering what’s happened to make all you authors hit them at the same time Callum – They’ll know that someone somewhere is watching them and advising you – I hope they have a large laundry bill for their soiled pants…
