Kaelah Mickelle

A native of Athens, Georgia, Kaelah Mickelle received her Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Education and Saxophone Performance from the University of Georgia in 2009. As a recipient of a School of Music Fellowship, she received her Master of Arts degree from the University of Iowa in 2012, having studied with world-renowned saxophonists Kenneth Tse and Eugene Rousseau.

Fast forward one year, and Kaelah Mickelle is now a published author for children’s books. She has been writing poetry since she was 7 years old, and decided it was time to start publishing her ideas. Her first book, “A-Z Poetry: Fruits and Veggies,” was released August 8, 2013 and is the first of many.

A-Z Poetry: Fruits and Veggies is a collection of 26 hilarious acrostic poems in rhyming verse that help teach children their ABCs and so much more. While teaching your children the alphabet with this book, they are also introduced to healthy fruits and vegetables and poetry. (Click the title to see it in my blog KIDS KORNER).

Each poem contains its own unique story and character, and are accompanied by a colorful illustration that captures the fruit/veggie’s personality while bringing the poem to life.

The acrostic poetry provides a clever mnemonic device to help teach children how to spell their fruits & veggies. If a child simply memorizes the poem, they will have learned how to spell the fruit or vegetable… which is great for spelling tests!

This book is also a wonderful model for introducing children to writing their own acrostic poem! Visualizing the poems in the book will intrigue them to write their own poem by perhaps first starting with the letters of their own name!

With so many teachable aspects in A-Z Poetry: Fruits and Veggies, this book is excellent for teachers and home school parents to utilize in their lesson plans. Each elementary grade school level can focus on the appropriate concept, and laugh out loud as they read these poems.

Children and adults of all ages will enjoy these cleverly crafted and rhythmically delightful poems with whimsical illustrations!

Stay on the look out for Kaelah’s second book, “1-2-3 Poetry: Numbers and Colors,” which will be released in September of 2013.
