I love sappy romances and space operas, so I wrote a book about them.
It’s unabashedly ridiculous, and involves alien abduction, a heart-throb mercenary prince, laser guns, six-armed lizard men with a curious predilection for the colour blue, and an out-of-her-depth high school girl trying to find her way back home.
Imminent Danger: And How to Fly Straight Into It
by Michelle Proulx
High school junior Eris Miller thinks she’s having a bad day when her roommate’s boyfriend catches her stepping out of the shower wearing nothing but a towel.
Then she gets abducted by scaly six-armed aliens with a strange fondness for the color blue, and her day suddenly gets a whole lot worse.
Trapped on a spaceship bound for the slave markets of Sirius B, Eris fears she’ll never see her home again.
But then fate whisks her away from her reptilian captors and into the arms of Varrin, a fast-talking space pirate who promises to deliver her safely back to Earth.
He claims to have her best interests at heart, but Eris soon discovers that her charming rescuer has a hidden agenda.
As they race across the galaxy, outrunning a villainous figure from Varrin’s past, Eris begins to realize that their relationship is putting her planet, her life and her heart in imminent danger.
She knows that trusting Varrin could prove deadly … but what other choice does she have?
Michelle is currently working on her sequel called Chasing Nonconformity and it will be published, hopefully, in January 2014.
Draft Advance Synopsis:
Picking up with Eris and Varrin right after the thrilling conclusion of Imminent Danger And How to Fly Straight into It, our star-crossed lovers’s relationship is yet again on-the-rocks.
But they have a new goal to distract them — namely, tracking down Varrin’s impounded ship, The Nonconformity, before it’s whisked far out of their reach by the galactic government.
Together with Miguri, their wise old alien friend, and Grashk, the short-tempered, six-armed lizard man, they hatch a daring plan to board a Claktill colony ship and use it as a decoy to bluff their way onto the government shipyard where The Nonconformity is being held.
But as is always the case with our intrepid quartet, nothing goes quite according to plan.
Will Varrin ever retrieve his precious ship?
Will Eris ever forgive Varrin for giving her that pendant?
Will Miguri ever see his family again?
Will Grashk ever stop getting infuriated over totally inconsequential things?
Find out in Chasing Nonconformity, coming January 2014!

The Nonconformity is a brilliant name for a ship!
And I love the humor of that sequel synopsis.
Best of luck on crafting the book behind it. 🙂
