on Jane Friedman site:
Anxiety can arise for writers in many different ways across the span of a career.
For those querying their debut, it often manifests as fear someone will steal their story idea or full manuscript.
The anxiety and fear are real and painful emotions, yet it may be reassuring to know this is not an actual threat.
It is highly unlikely that a literary agent will read enough of your manuscript to suss out the story. The odds of one reading past Page 10 are minuscule. And frankly, if you’re a guy writing for other guys, the chances of getting past the query stage are pretty slim altogether. So you really don’t have anything to fear from agents stealing your ideas. The only thing to fear is that they won’t get far enough in to know what those ideas are.
