Once upon a time, in a land far away, there lived a group of tiny creatures called Cheese Fairies.
These fairies had a special talent for creating different types of cheese that were loved by everyone in the kingdom.
One day, the king of the land declared a cheese-making contest, and the Cheese Fairies were excited to participate.
They worked tirelessly, using their magic to create the most delicious cheeses imaginable.
On the day of the contest, the Cheese Fairies presented their cheeses, and the king was amazed by their creativity and talent.
From that day on, the Cheese Fairies became the most beloved creatures in the land, and their cheeses were enjoyed by all.

The story doesn’t have much substance, that is clear, Chris. I think ChatGPT is good for formulaic writing, although some people can get interesting results, but, as Teagan and you said, you need to keep working at it and making changes. It is not as straightforward as some people think, at least right now. Thanks for showing us the results, Chris, and I must say that for somebody who is terrible at trying to put images together, those are quite nice. I am sure there was hard work involved as well. 🙂

There were some interesting word combinations used to get the message across to the AI Art generator, Olga, and I discovered just how difficult it is to explain exactly what I envisaged 😂

The illustrations are cute and I love your Cheese Fairies idea, but the AI story is lame!

Exactly. We might want a suspense free life, but we certainly do not want suspense free stories. Where is the challenge? The obstacles which have to be overcome? The question which the story is going to answer? The arc of suspense? The antagonist? Even a child would think this to be lame.

Totally agree. It makes me kind of glad – if AI started writing good stories, it could put human authors out of business!

Okay… Not to play devil’s advocate, and not just to be different… Or maybe I’m just an ignorant old hillbilly (sarcasm), but I read this before I knew AI story generators were involved. I’m not too proud to say that I thought it was a charming little story. For heaven’s sake, it’s a children’s story, not Tolstoy.
Chris, don’t underestimate your talent or intuitive insight. The generator didn’t come up with the very clever idea of “Cheese Fairies.” The images are wonderful. Give yourself some credit there too. I’ve played with those things, and the results I get are so random, seldom corresponding to the text I enter, and more often than not, utterly bizarre. It usually takes a ton of patience and trial and error before I get a good image. You knew what combination of words and “filters” would return the right image.
Hugs to you and yours.

Many thanks for those kind comments, Teagan, and you’re right, those images were the end results of a LOT of trial and error attempts 🦍🤗❤️❤️🤗🦍

Teagan, I agree. I didn’t know AI wrote it. And thought it was cute, with a few missing parts, like it could be expanded. I use ChatGPT for historical research questions and get what I want. 📚🎶

I like the pictures, Chris, very cute. Sir Chocolate and Lady Sweet think their adventures are more fun than this 😉

I don’t see this story as challenging any real writer who creates a story about cheese fairies – very flat, with no excitement, and not descriptive. Meh!

Exactly, Noelle, I posted this to demonstrate AI’s abilities because many of the articles I read were from concerned writers 😃

My husband and I have been talking about how we would manage our classes, faced with the temptation of students to use AI. The problem is, even though that story is flat, AI learns, and it will improve.

That’s what I found with the other two stories I asked it to do, Noelle, however, like most computer systems, it depends on what prompts or data are input, garbage in, garbage out.

I think with students it could be mostly garbage in. We decided for tests to have written blue books, closed book, and for written assignments, require the students’ notes and references. But this was just a pie-in-the-sky thought.

😂🤣😂 I think teachers of the future might need to use AI programs like ChatGPT to assess originality of student’s work 😱

ChatGPT is not a danger for normal authors who know about suspense arcs, about questions the story has to answer, challenges that have to be overcome. It is a bit like writing “Boy meets girl, they fall in love and marry, have children and live happily ever after.”

Exactly, Fran – I’d been seeing quite a few posts and articles about ChatGPT, so had a dabble to see what it could do. As you rightly say, real live writers need not worry – yet 😃

I clicked like, but that’s not quite what I mean.
This story is a bit meh! Nothing really happens.
If this is the kind of stuff AI can generate, we authors needn’t worry, but I suppose the algorithm will get better as it learns.

This was the first of three attempts by me to get a story from ChatGPT, just to see what it was like, Viv 🤗
