on Publishing … and Other Forms of Insanity:
Here are three new literary agents seeking clients. New agents are a boon to writers. They are building their lists and will go the extra mile for their clients.
Sian Ellis-Martin is looking for contemporary book club and commercial fiction from a wide range of authors and experiences.
Lauren Bittrich wants upmarket and literary fiction, psychological thrillers, voicey memoirs and essay collections, and select YA with a focus on underrepresented voices.
Hannah Lehmkuhl is most drawn to upmarket fiction, but she’ll read anything she can get her hands on.
Always check the agency website and agent bio before submitting. Agents can switch agencies or close their lists, and submission requirements can change.
NOTE: Don’t submit to two agents at the same agency simultaneously. If one rejects you, you may then submit to another.

Erica did all the heavy lifting (finding these agents), I’m only one of the messengers, Debby 🤗

oops: sorry, forgot the quote: “Don’t submit to two agents at the same agency simultaneously. If one rejects you, you may then submit to another.”

Excellent to know, thank you, Chris. Btw, I’ve read that Historical Fiction is now considered merely a sub genre, so does that mean that a historical thriller (hopefully thrilling, if not just suspenseful?) should be submitted as a Thriller? Must the agent specifically be asking for Historical, as well?

You should ask the agent, Shira 🤔

Sorry, didn’t want to be a nuisance.

I tend to assume that the agents are too busy, and so if they don’t specifically ask for historical stories, I don’t query them.

If you don’t ask them, you could be missing an opportunity 😃

True, unless it just irritates them more? I seemed to have done so just confirming that a literary agency was still in business, since I’d only found updates as recent as 2019.
