on The Book Designer:
A slightly different take on DTNT this month…
Please, authors, if you are on social media or TRYING to get on social media, read this month’s edition of DO THIS NOT THAT.
What I Did
I unfollowed and deleted a romance author from all of my social media platforms.
This author is a terrific lady whom I have spent time with on the phone and in person with her.
Her genre (historical romance) is one of my favorites.
I like her characters, I have read her books in the past, and I like her personally.
SO WHY would I unfollow her everywhere?
Excellent social media advice!

I would have done the same. I only need to read about an author and their book once or twice to know I would like to read it. I might buy, or perhaps bookmark the link. I don’t mind being reminded a few weeks later of the book’s existence, but in the meantime I enjoy reading blogs about authors’ real lives, especially funny events or interesting places.

Also, don’t tell me to “Show me some love” by following you on social media. One, I do not know you, perhaps once you posted something interesting? Two, I am not part of the social media herd. Three, I follow nobody but my own heart and intuition. Yes, I do click follow on a few blogs and respond when I feel motivated to do so. C’est la vie!

It is so sad that some who do have talent, choose to bury it in their oil slicked used car salesmen tactics. It reminds me of the old Snake oil merchant in films… Some of us will never know what they are hawlking as we feel assaulted and cease to care. 🙂

When I feel bombarded on a post or blog, I am done. There is much more available that does not assault the senses.

Me too, Lea – I try to post, or reblog, every 2 to 3 hours, unless there are a LOT of good articles, or book promos… 😀

I unfollow so many people for exactly this reason. If anything it makes me never want to read their book and actually does them more damage than good.
