For me, when it comes to writing an action scene or sequence I get excited and the amazing moment spews over the page in a glorious haphazard way — and for a first draft, that’s okay. Maybe you’re a planner who needs to map out every nuance of the scene in perfect choreography and you can see down the minutia every element of what is happening — and that’s great, too. But, likely you’re a writer who falls somewhere in between those two extremes.

Regardless of how your first draft for an action sequence looks on the page (or how it got there), it’s important to go back over it and revise some key elements. The last thing you want is for a scene that should be action-packed and full of tension to fall flat or just be “okay”.
