How to use a file manager to protect your precious manuscript
Don’t trust technology!
If you are writing a book, you should never use one working copy of your manuscript file. Computer files can suffer from all sorts of problems such as file corruption, accidental deletions or worse, viruses.
Many writers start writing a book using Microsoft Word or a similar word processor.
Every day they add more text to the manuscript and think that by regularly hitting ‘Save‘ everything is safe.
Wrong.
Very wrong.

Apologies, Derek. I did start to leave a comment, but then I read the cookies policy, in particular this:
‘Google will store and use this information.’
I deleted anything and everything that was associated with Google because of this constant surveillance so I can’t accept your cookie policy. Apologies again.

Like many writers before me I have lost work when my laptop crashed twice..within six weeks…It was bad. However I did get part files back…Of which i need to re-write

A really good advice! In the past i often had two or more times to restore parts of my other work, because i trusted to much in my harddisk, the cloud, USB-Sticks. 😉 Michael

The more places and methods used to store work, the better, Michael

Thats right Chris! But sometimes – i had such a problem – a virus kills all stored files. ;-( Really important things i always send to print on paper. A later OCR-scan is better than nothing. 😉 Have a good weekend. Michael
