Dear Jeff,
We all know that the only thing you fear is the loss of income.
I wonder if you are aware how much you are losing from non sales of ebooks in your literary section?
Currently you have several million books of ours consigned to the literary equivalent of purgatory.
Why?
Because of your company’s ridiculous rating system, designed to consign a book to oblivion in a couple of days after it goes live on Amazon if it isn’t instantly bought in its thousands by the general public worldwide.

I suspect that the malaise Amazon is suffering from – and it IS a malaise, it’s only making money on inertia and sheer scale of operations now – is that it is, in terms of day to day running, under the thumb of accountants. Accountants aren’t known for their imaginative or risk-taking natures. That same reason is why Hollywooden et al only make remakes now, and re-makes of re-makes – there’s no spirit left in the companies, just stuffed suits.

Good point, Ian, but it’s always worth a try to get this kind of message across 😎

I’m an accountant and let me tell you they can be creative when the urge strikes ☺

Ah, how I miss strikes – planned stoppages, lightning strikes, even bird strikes. It’s all virtually illegal now here in England (contemporary politicians aren’t known for their imaginative or risk-taking natures). Damned near impossible to organise, anyway – three ballots and a rolled-up trouser-leg, or something, before a hammer may be returned to stores or a single brazier lit at the gates. Even the dictionary definition of picket fences has officially been returned to just “white wooden posts marking out a flower garden”. I had urges too, once, but they’ve evaporated more completely than strikes. Still, there’s nothing like a trip down memory lane. Thank’ee kindly. 🙂
