Leaving the reader hanging – is it a good idea?
Many sources will tell you not to end your book with a cliffhanger. The reader needs some satisfaction or a happy ending to complete their reading experience. In my opinion, the answer to this is not quite that simple.

I agree with you. My first novel reads as a stand alone providing closure and satisfaction for the main characters, but their are minor characters with issues, that provide opportunity and unresolved conflict should I decide to continue my saga.

That’s something that I’ve tried to do. I’ve also gone back and put in the first chapter of the next book (once the new book is published) to entice readers when they finish a first or middle book in the series.
