Since the start of 2017, we have thrown out more than 6.4m tonnes of electronic goods, according to The World Counts, a website keeping a live tally of global e-waste. If past patterns are any judge, not much of this will get properly recycled: less than a sixth of the e-waste discarded around the world in 2014 was dealt with in this way, says the UN.

  1. This is an excellent summary of what everyone should know about e-waste! It is sad to see most of the e-waste is transported to developing country instead of through proper organisation to depart the devices and reuse the component. This also generated serious environmental pollution issues such as the leak of toxic material lead and mercury that contaminate the soil and produce a harmful effect on human health. Recycle e-waste is definitely not a single country issue but a global issues which we need to face it and get our hands on it as soon as possible. Chris, thank you for posting!

  2. Wow! I had no idea. A lot of computers here are donated to organizations that “clean” them up and donate them to schools, people who can’t afford to buy them, senior centers, etc., but it’s only a small amount of the computers that are discarded each year.

  3. The disgrace of a throwaway society. This could be either depressing or motivating. The Earth will tolerate only so much before she revolts in bigger ways than already seen… Thanks for posting, Chris 💚
