  1. Bottom Line: Buy your own ISBN and publish at Ingram first. I’m in the middle of finishing my Beginner’s Cheat Sheet on how to use InDesign to create your own Print-on-Demand interior (it’s at justcan’thelpwriting.wordpress.com). It really isn’t that hard! If you go the Ingram route, everything I’ve read says you’ll own your own ISBN, be the publisher of record as opposed to Amazon, and have more control over your book. Yes, there’s an upfront cost, but this post from Diane Tibert suggests we can’t count on having CreateSpace as an option for long, and the alternative (KDP paperbacks) is not a good choice, however “free” it might seem.
