An interesting question from Kristen – I’ve read 1184 that I can remember (according to my Goodreads Profile), but know there are books I can’t recall the titles of. 🐵

We readers like to imagine that we’ll always have time for a book. We’ll get to finish all the great ones. The classics. The new releases. The fantasy series that stretches on for book after book. The standalone memoir that somehow reflects our own lives.
But of course we won’t read all of the books in the world. We probably won’t even have the chance to read all of the books that matter. Time is finite after all. So are the number of novels we read.
That raises the question: how many books will we each read during our lifetimes?
Emily Temple over at Literary Hub set out to find the answer to that very thing. She found that the answer depends on several variables including how long we’ll each live and how many books we read per year. So Temple created three categories: an average reader, a voracious one, and a…

“If” a person could read a book every single day of their life & with there being 365 days in each year, multiplying that by the average age of say…..75 years, that would mean the number of books one could consume in a lifetime would be twenty seven thousand three hundred & seventy five. (excluding leap years of course)
I am not that well read.
I haven’t a clue how many books there are out there, but suspect there are millions. So the strategy should be to read just the “good” books.
But which books are good is a much bigger question?
Just reading works for me.

If a book is not holding my interest, I’ll stop and read something else instead Wayne, but I don’t record it as having read it 🐵

That’s a hugely impressive total Chris. I used to keep track each year. Oddly, that was fun to me. But lately I have so little “fun reading” time that I stopped tracking — it wasn’t fun any more. Mega hugs!

I can’t fathom how many I’ve read – I started reading at age 4 and never stopped. As an adult, maybe I gone through 50-100 books a year? I’ve got an image in my head of standing in the middle of piles of books reaching skyward…
