Right now, some of you are staring at this page wondering “What the heck is an elevator speech and why do I need one?”  Well, EVERY writer needs one if he wants to rub elbows with movers and shakers in this industry, and to me that could be anyone who has the ability to purchase my books.

An elevator speech is a very passionate, 60-90 second “spill,” that you would pitch to the media or any individual or groups who might be interested in (again), purchasing your books.  But, to be effective, this “spill” must accomplish two things:

  • It must point out three ways your books will change your audience’s lives, and…
  • It must be conveyed with such enthusiasm and passion, that it will be hard for the listener to say “NO” to you.

  1. I do have an elevator speech. I even got to use it once! 😀 Not that anything came of it, but I was able to give myself a little pat on the back for doing it. And the chief exec of the entire agency (a presidential appointee) looked closer to impressed than bored. LOL. Of course she undoubtedly forgot all about it within 30 seconds.
