Good morning, gentle folks. It is I once again, Danny the Lovable Dog. Everyone loves me, except Andrew my human. He’s sending me off to doggie summer camp. He says I’ll have fun there with my canine brothers and sisters, but I don’t know about that. Anyway, I’m going without a fight (for a change). Andrew will have to take over my writing commitments while I’m away. I just hope he doesn’t bore you to tears. Here’s his first offering. I have to post it for him because he’s not too sharp when it comes to computers. I hope to be back next month with a fur-raising adventure to convey. Bye for now.
No Earthly Good

At dinnertime we talked about Charlie. He was somethin’ else. People always said that he was of no earthly good, but Charlie showed us all.
Daddy shook his head as he cut his meat. “You believe that about Charlie?”
No one answered; sister started to cry.
I grew up with Charlie. He was the first boy that I ever did kiss. Him, brother, and I would go swimming down to the swimming hole in the summertime. I think sister was sweet on him, but she never said nothing ’bout it ’cause momma always said Charlie was a bad sort.
Charlie’s people came from back up in the hills. He never wore store-bought clothes and his hair was always a mite too long. But his smile . . . his smile . . . would brighten anyone’s life.
Charlie died today.
He was down to the highway, walking along the side. As he passed the Gentry house, the baby came out of the yard and walked onto the highway just as the car came out of nowhere. It was moving fast. Charlie only had time to jump in front of it and push the baby to safety.
Sister still cries.
Now no one says that Charlie was of no earthly good.

Fabulous story, Andrew. You do have a way with tugging at the heartstrings. You rival Danny’s tickling the funny bone 🙂 Enjoy your time at camp, Danny. Remember, there’s no time like the present. We can never know if we’re living our last moments on Earth. Ask Charlie 🙂

I tagged Danny in a Happiness challenge, unaware that he is already at camp. He makes me laugh, so I couldn’t resist giving him a mention. No pressure to do this, but if he’s interested in sending a note while taking a break from canine cavorting, here’s the link: https://mythsofthemirror.com/2016/06/28/the-happiness-tag/ 😀

I’ll call the camp tonight and see if they will let me speak with Danny. This is the kind of thing he can get behind. I wonder what the word limit is. Danny can be verbose at times. If he deigns to take the challenge, I let you know. He’s such a prima donna!!!

Danny had me post his things on the Happiness challenge for him (he’s still at camp), but I don’t know if it took.

It did. Thanks for playing along, Andrew. You certainly had me laughing this morning 😀 Have a great day!

I got a letter from Danny this morning. He is having a wonderful time, but he’s not too keen on the water activities.

Love the short story… can’t hardly wait for the movie! ❤

Danny’s waiting for the movie too. He’s insisting that he gets to play Charlie. He says he’s got a great smile too. After summer camp, he’s going out to Hollywood for a screen-test.

Pinky the Cat here. Cheer up, Danny. Canine summer camp is fun (for dogs) and you’ll be the king of canines. How can the other dogs not be impressed by your good looks and scholarly flair? Tell Andrew that he wrote a good story and he’s lucky he has you to post it for him. He should give you a hotdog. He’s clearly going to be lost without you.

You’re right about being lost without Danny. He always finds my shoes for me in the morning. I’ve been going barefoot since he left.

Well, it’s summer is Florida, Andrew. A good time to be barefoot 🙂

awww….Danny, you sound kind of sad. Don’t worry–a handsome and adventurous canine such as yourself will have a wonderful time at doggie camp! Maybe you’ll want to stay even longer! That will show your human, sending you away like that. Except, we’d miss you, so hurry back, ok? Now, Andrew. OK, I wanted to be funny, but that’s a seriously good short story. (I’m sorry, Danny, but I cannot tell a lie!)
