I read a book years about about the women who tried to become astronauts in the early years. One woman was able to stay in a depravation chamber far, far longer than the men and performed as well on the tasks, but the prejudices of the time won out.
Car insurance is a good case in point to show the flawed logic that was used to keep women “down.” You’d hear the curse, “Women drivers!” constantly in the 1950’s and 60’s. But when it comes to making money in the insurance game, no one with a brain ignored the statistics. In the 1960’s, the truth came out that women had lower insurance rates because we were better drivers.
The response?
“Better drivers? They’re the ones who cause everyone else (aka “men”) to have accidents.”
I rest my case. 🙂
