No money ever crossed my palms when I went to the store for my mother. We ran a grocery ‘tab’ till payday. Still, a dollar went a l-o-o-n-g way then,

My grandmother used to send me to the store with 50 cents–I was maybe 6 or 7 and could pick up her pack of L&M filterless smokes and still have enough left over for a can of Cherokee Red soda and 3 pretzel rods out of the big glass jar on the counter. That was around 1972.

Great chuckle! I did used to go to a corner store just like that – for my grandmother – when I was a little girl. Joe Stellas’ store in Bristol. CT, long gone.
