  1. I think readers’ dislike of prologues stems from writers calling chapter one a prologue when it is not and this dislike is further compounded when the book doesn’t really start until chapter two. I love prologues when they have a definite reason for being there that may not be apparent until much later in the book when the reader goes ‘aahhhh. of course’.

  2. I was interested to see that my Prologue to The Man Who Found Birds among the Stars fits all of those criteria except 2 and 4. Of course, all of the book is a “real document,” written by a different author in the 29th century.
