I’m a British author who took up writing seriously only in 2013. By then I was in my mid-fifties and realised that I had a story to tell after helping my husband through distressing addictions which were affecting our marriage. A London literary agency debated for a week as to whether to take up my first book The Porn Detective, and I waited on the edge of my seat.
However, unfortunately the answer came back in the negative, but by then I had caught the writing bug and wanted to self-publish, so I did. My next novel The Pilates Class was again based on my own experience with exercising, and as a contrast to my first book is light-hearted and humorous, as is another of my funny stories No Sex Please, I’m Menopausal!
An item of news gave me the inspiration for my most successful book to date, the Suspense/Thriller A House Without Windows, which has won a New Apple Book Award in 2014, and a Readers’ Favorite Gold Award. Another item of news gave me the idea for For the Sake of a Child.
Over the course of 2014 and 2015 I wrote several Women’s Fiction novels, one of which, The Daughter-in-law Syndrome, won a Readers’ Favorite 5-star seal and was an official selection in the 2015 New Apple Book Awards.
I wrote A Rather Unusual Romance based on my treatment for thyroid cancer (no, that’s not me on the cover!), and Lily: A Short Story, based on my experiences of working in a care home when my children were small.
My love of the Isle of Wight helped when writing Lily:A Short Story, and also aided in my novel Revenge, and another The Donor, which is due to be published on December 14th 2015.
Last but not least is my latest short story published last month, The Noise Effect, which was written with past experience of noise in mind when living on a large estate as a teenager.
I have been married for 35 years, and live in picturesque Suffolk, East Anglia. I have two adult sons and 4 grandchildren. I took early retirement to write full-time, and if I’m not hard at work creating you’ll find me walking around my village in the fresh air. I love rock music, and still attend as many festivals as I can, especially the Isle of Wight festival, which I wouldn’t miss for anything!

Hey, Stevie! Enjoyed learning about your writing experiences. Read and loved “For The Sake of a Child” and have “House Without Windows” and “Revenge” on my TBR list. Wishing you much success with your books.
I would love to take early retirement to write full time, but I’m afraid it would take winning the lottery for me; or for my husband to sell more art than he can carve. 🙂
