Besides, from literary agents words at conferences. Dialogues are one of the first places to be examined in a manuscript. Have your dialogue marred with those 200 and that’s the fastest way to the dust bin and a standard rejection letter 😉

Hope you won’t use more than 3 or 4 of those in your novels (and still!) Someone would say that they are the greatest tools for telling and not showing a character’s emotions and body language while in a dialogue. There’s a reason why someone suggests to stick to “said” for most cases and show some action to express not 200 but 2000 ways a character might react when saying certain things.
