Great post! Here’s a tip I like that is very useful. In the old days of hard copy editing, we read the manuscript with a ruler, line by line down the page. By blocking the next line from sight, it really slows the eye down to catch errors. So, when I am at my “final” proofreading, I print out the manuscript in a different font and “ruler read” it. You’ll be shocked at the style inconsistencies and errors you miss on the screen.

I love all these tips, except for the Hemingway app. For some reason, that grates on me.

There’s an 9th one: edit from the last page and backward, paragraph by paragraph. It helps fooling your brain not getting caught in the flow of the story.
