POSITIVE EQUALS POSITIVE (Guest Post)

When I first started writing it was crime and suspense and romance and strictly that. However, once I moved across the street from the house that would eventually become the focal point of The Fine Line, everything changed. The realm of writing opened up wider and the inspiration for a creepy ghost story happened. I don’t believe that was by chance. I believe I was put in that place right at that time for a purpose. It was by design.

It is my personal belief that there is a perfect plan and a balance to everything we do. This includes who we meet and situations we find ourselves in; choices we need to make and circumstances we need to turn away from. Don’t get me wrong, freewill abounds, but I sincerely believe there is a driving force behind where we end up.

To expound upon that, sometimes I don’t think “we” make the choice at all. As Forrest Gump said, “I think it’s both.” I think we are born with a destiny, but I also think we form that destiny as we grow and learn.

With all of my heart, I do believe the future is subjective and can change based on our decisions. We form our destiny with the choices we make, whether they are good or bad. With that said, I also believe that when something feels right, it just does. Ever heard anyone say, “You’ll just know”? There is some truth to that.

I believe in the power of positivity. I believe in the law of attraction. If you say, “I’m going to do this with my life,” (silently or aloud) eventually it will happen. The spirit world is very sensitive to our energy and this law of attraction is no exception. When we see our lives taking a positive turn before it happens, just wait; things will start to change. We must keep that in mind when we make decisions because we’re not in this alone. Some decisions are dependent upon another person and what decision he/she will make. You can only control you.

Of course, there are times when snap decisions have to be made, but overall if you have time to think about something, meditate on it, and consult with your higher power, you can usually make a pretty good choice. Quiet yourself. Listen to your heart. Listen to the calls from the spirit world. You’ll go down the right path every time, even when it may darken with hardship.

I have made plenty of choices in my past that I’m not proud of. Stupid decisions that have left me maimed and bleeding. Sometimes the decisions you make are a result of being pushed into a corner. In my life, I ended up in the corner because of my own poor choices and had to make a decision based on the options available to me at that time. However, I’ve watched my Creator shape poor decisions and “have to” choices into glorious opportunities. I look back now and realize that if I hadn’t made those choices, I wouldn’t be where I am right now. Yes, it’s possible I could have eventually ended up right here at this moment in time, but I give all of the credit to my Creator for watching out for me and guiding me; making the best out of all of the messes I’ve managed to make along the way.

Time is truly the best teacher. When I speak to young people I try to remind them that they don’t have to know everything right now, even though they want to or think they do anyway. When I talk to my son, I assure him that he doesn’t have to shoulder such a heavy burden just yet. I tell him it is important to follow his dreams because that’s when he will be truly happy.

Those aspirations are a two-sided coin, nevertheless. I think we have to know who we are and dream within the realm of possibility. In other words, I know I could have never become a brain surgeon no matter how much I might have wanted to, but what I did know is that I wanted to help people.

I will end this article by saying that you should dare to dream big. That’s my motto, after all, “Dream Big!” If you see something that you want, run after it, but keep in mind the pros and cons to that “want.” If you want to be successful, be successful! If you want to be happy, be happy! Choose! Whether you’re trying to make preparations for your book or preparations for life, seek direction and look to your soul. If you do that, I don’t think you can go wrong.
