A very useful article – thanks so much for sharing! I’ve just started sending my book out to reviewers, but am very clear that I am interested in honest feedback. It’s good to know about the disclaimer and I will mention it to any further reviewers.
Excellent article. I’ve never paid for reviews, but I often been asked to swap, which I politely decline. But I’ve read books by my fellow authors and reviewed them, and they have done the same for mine. I think we need to stop obsessing with reviews, I don’t think they lead more sales anyway.
I remember the bartering stuff when I started and I didn’t realize it was a no-no for a few months. That’s one of the tough parts of this. A new author sees all of these sites and public deals, so they don’t realize what’s right and wrong until they get in trouble. Not to mention a lot of these reviewers claim to be Amazon Affiliates, which makes you think it’s all good.
Very useful. Thanks. Though I do wish there was more understanding that not every new author knows about these pitfalls. Seems like it’s one strike and you’re out.
Thanks much for the shout-out for my post. Spread the word! I hate to see newbies get caught in the trap of these review mills.

N.a.s.t.y. I don’t get why. Not only unethical but worse than juvenile. Will there never be peace?
