Got an email this morning from my good friend author / blogger Susan Toy who uses WordPress:
I’ve just done something in WordPress that I can’t seem to fix.
I was typing up a new blog post for Reading Recommendations and hit the wrong key.
My screen suddenly went to a teeny-tiny type face and I can’t seem to get out of it.
The entire site has gone small on me, but not so for the rest of the sites showing on my computer.
Do you have any idea what I may have done and how I can get the screen back to normal again? As I’m using Firefox, its easy.
Fortunately, another good friend Author / Blogger Jack Eason had already hit this problem last year and had the answer:
I use Firefox so its easy.
If they go to the very top of their screen. they’ll see the following:
File Edit View History Bookmarks Tools Help.
Click on View, then go to Zoom.
Click on Zoom in as many times as they need to. 😉
PS – IT WORKED for Susan 😀
NOTE from TSRA – Even if you don’t use Firefox, this may work on YOUR browser – it doesn’t hurt to try (I HOPE lol)
Also in Firefox, you can zoom in and out using Ctrl with – or +. I do it accidentally all the time. I do a lot of things accidentally all the time by doing ctrl+X instead of Shift+X. Just like my typing, really 😀

I use a small laptop (11.5: screen) and am always pumping up the screen so I don’t have to squint. If you use a mouse, you can hold down the Control key and work the little roller forward on your mouse to zoom out, or towards you to zoom in. 😀
Yes, I’m a wuss and use a mouse with my laptop.

Good information to have. Sometimes these websites have a mind of their own.

I’ve always used the zoom, because of my vision problems. The zoom for Chrome is on the menu button in the upper right corner of the browser. I haven’t used IE for many years, but I seem to remember its zoom being in the lower right corner. FF users can also easily make changes to the default font, font size, and other display settings, but since I switched to Chrome, I don’t know where recent FF updates may have put that function.

I wish there was a manual – a paper one, not an on-line one that I could never remember how to find – that told me what all of the possible combinations of shift/ctrl/alt/del/F1 – F12 did, along with the rest of the hidden keyboard commands…AND how to undo them!

Thanks for your immediate help with this, Chris! You got back to me before anyone on the WordPress forum had even read my question!

Thanks to Jack Susan – I only remembered WHO had solved it, not HOW 😀

Thank for your help, Jack! It worked immediately. I just can’t figure out what I did in the first place to make the screen go small. How can we know how to stop making these mistakes if we don’t know what we’ve done to cause them in the first place?

I’m just glad it worked for you Susan. When it happened to me, there was no one to ask. 🙂

That’s true – Jack was so desperate he even asked ME and I didn’t have a clue – but Jack being a resourceful chap solved it himself 😀
