See, this is why J.K. Rowling was a genius. She wrote in the children’s fiction plus fantasy genre, so that puts her books in over half of the most popular books ever sold. The below chart shows an estimate of all the books ever sold by genre.
Which genre are you?
From ebookfriendly.com

The missing genres are probably included in the ones displayed, e.g., Sci-Fi in Fantasy Fiction, Romance in Modern Literary Fiction. However, I think they merit their own category, given the millions of loyal readers. Isaac Asimov would most likely agree with me 🙂

Great graphics. There is definitely a lot of competition in the children’s book genre.

Very interesting. But where is romance? Also, Harry Potter was read by Y/A readers. Is it strictly a children’s book that inflated that category?

There are several genre missing Diana – I saw this and reblogged it to see what you authors thought of it and so far, no-one is impressed by certain omissions 😀

Interesting, and where is romance? Also, re: J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter was also popular with YA. Wonder how they categorized children’s fiction.

As you know, I just published my first children’s book. I’m either a marketing genius, or a madman – to face such competition. The jury’s still out on that one… 🙂

No buddy, no difference (gently backs out the door). No difference at all (spins around, bolts outside, tears car door open, speeds away, tires screeching)

I don’t see Science Fiction anywhere in either of the pie charts. Why not?
