Meet Guest Author Wendy Anne Darling

cropped WENDY HEADSHOT 3 copyBack when I was a young kid my dad was away in the British Navy most of the time and money for toys (or any treats at all) was scarce. One of the highlights of my life was when my grandmother came to visit. She worked for the Oxford University Press in London and would bring me bags of ‘seconds.’ These were slightly imperfect books that OUP had decided couldn’t be sold, so they gave them to their employees and she, bless her heart, brought them to me!

I believe those books saved my life and made me the person I am today.  I read and read and read and, when I had nothing left to read, I wrote. I wrote hundreds of poems and stories and I illustrated them too! When I was teenager, then living in South Africa, my wonderful English teacher, Miss Buss, used my poetry as reading assignments in class. They had to discuss them as if the author wasn’t in the room and I found it hilarious when they gave their opinions on “What did the author mean when she wrote this line?” Miss Buss was a single lady, living in a high-rise apartment in Johannesburg and used to leave my creative writing projects to read and grade until last as she enjoyed my stories so much. I’ll never forget one day when she came into class after reading a totally out-of-character horror story I had written! She didn’t get a wink of sleep! LOL!

wendyThroughout my life, many people have told me that I should write a book and get it published. I’ll be honest with you; I’d seen my Mum struggle with rejection letter after rejection letter from publishers for a book she had written that I loved and know to this day would have sold. I remember her crying over them and, somehow, I never quite got around to writing that first book. Until now.

The idea for Silver Lightning came to me in a dream I had several years ago. Like Alex’s dream in the book, it was so vivid and so real that I never got it out of my head. It just sat there in my mind, whimpering occasionally and begging to be put into words on a page. Indie publishing’s rise in popularity and ease of publishing finally prompted me to make it a reality.

Apart from writing and reading a lot, I still love drawing too, so I did the cover art for Silver Lightning as well. I like acting and have been in several plays, and I have always loved to read aloud so I am now narrating and producing audio books for Amazon’s Audible division. My next project will be to do an audio version of Silver Lightning so that listeners can actually hear the voices that have been talking in my head for years!

It is my goal to create an entire new world or universe too! I love  Star Trek and Doctor Who and if it’s sci-fi I’ve probably seen it.

I published Silver Lightning first on CreateSpace as I’m too much of a book lover not to make a physical version available; I just had to cradle it in my arms, you know? J Then it went over to Kindle because I do love my Kindle as well. I think it’s a bit like Mary Poppins’s carpet bag; opening up my Kindle and looking at dozens of new books! One day I’d love to have a place where I can build a huge library as well though.

As a brand new author, I desperately need reviews so, if you do read my book, please would you take a few minutes to comment on it? It would absolutely make my day, my week, and maybe even my life! Thank you!

SILVER LIGHTNING

SILVER LIGHTNINGWhen Alex Bascolme’s vivid dream about an enchanted motorcycle comes true, he is thrown into a world of adventure where his life, and the lives of everyone he helps, is changed.

You know what’s it’s usually like when you wake up after a really amazing dream? By the time you actually get your eyes open the memory is beginning to fade. You hazily remember what you were dreaming about but you can’t remember many of the details anymore.

By the time you’ve got your clothes on and had breakfast it’s pretty much disappeared and you’re left thinking how nice it would be to be able to go back and see what you liked about it so much and what happened next.
It’s kind of like you had something wonderful and very precious but somehow you lost it and don’t know how to find it again.

Well, this wasn’t THAT sort of dream.

  1. Wendy, What a great life you have and blessed with so many talents! I WILL get SILVER LIGHTNING and read and review, it will take me a few weeks as I am in the middle of my lastest release. But, ANYTHING CHRIS (My Story Reading Ape friend) tells me about, I know must be worth my reading! Best of SUCCESS to you!
