Wolf Paw Publications is probably the first and only true Non-Profit Publishing house in the community, at the moment. We only receive 20% of the gross royalties, giving our authors the other 80%. That 20% is then cycled, along with my own money to pay for the editing, formatting, and cover art for the authors’ books.
People always ask me why I founded Wolf Paw Publications. The answer is really simple. I wanted a place that held true to our motto “Author Services for today’s Author”. We do freelance services as well at reasonable prices, since we know what it is to be broke. All those profits go to the authors for the services they need to release, and anything else they need for their books to be perfect. I wanted a place where Authors have the chance to be involved with the creation of their “baby” without having all the stress of actual publication or stress over the fees for the services they need done. I wanted a place that was more like a family and less like a sterile work environment. So, Wolf Paw Publications was born.
It’s not easy running a publishing house. A lot of people assume it is, and assume anyone can do it; but the reality is so different. It takes time (I work ALL day for this company, every day, no days off). It takes patience (Authors take pride in their work and want it to be absolutely perfect, and it takes patience to work with the more vocal and opinionated authors). And it takes heart (If you don’t have faith in your authors, how can you expect anyone else to? How can you expect them to have faith in you if you have none in them). This business isn’t cut out for everyone. It’s cutthroat and it can be vicious. But it doesn’t have to be. I see every day how indie authors and indie houses attack each other ruthlessly. The literary world is big enough for all of us, there’s no need to mudsling each other. If we all worked together, we’d do so much better as a whole and we wouldn’t have the negativity that we do.
Wolf Paw Publications was founded on the belief that every story deserves to be told. Here, there are no limitations to the imagination, there’s no being told “No one would read that”; there’s no rejections. Every potential author that comes to us has a story they feel needs to be told, and that’s what our job is.
Our authors receive higher royalties than most other houses, because becoming rich was never the intention of this company. Everything the company makes is used to pay for things the authors need such as editing, cover art, and formatting. If we cover the formatting cost, then they get put where we have an opening for release. If they pay the small fee themselves (Our affiliates are amazing with their bulk pricing), they can be published on any date they want; so long as their book is finished, edited, fitted with a cover, and formatted at least a week before the date.
Our affiliates work closely with the authors to ensure the authors are happy. Edits are done via Skype if the author so wishes for each round. Our cover artists are amazing. We’d truly be lost without them.
Wolf Paw Publications‘ “staff” is really a mix of people and other indie companies. Let me take a minute to introduce our amazing staff!
|Bridgette Ann BandellVP of Wolf Paw Publications
Founder of Bookworm Productions
Editor/Cover Artist for WPP
|Jared RacklerFounder of Jared Rackler Designs
Cover Artist for WPP
Editor for WPP
|Christy FosterFounder of Phoenix’s Quill Formatting
Formatter for WPP
Editing is done by Bridgette Bandell from Bookworm Productions, and Angela Brady a volunteer editor. I do a final run through after all is said and done.
Cover Art is done primarily by Jared Rackler of Jared Rackler Designs and Bridgette Bandell from Bookworm Productions. The authors are given their choice of who they’d like to create their covers. Because I’m so busy, they rarely choose me to make their covers. They think I won’t have time to do it for them lol.
Formatting is covered by Christy Foster over at Phoenix’s Quill Formatting and she is absolutely AMAZING! She makes the print editions look absolutely beautiful!
WPP would definitely be lost without our loyal and dedicated staff of professionals. I can’t thank each and every one of them enough for the help they give this small company.
If you would like to get in touch with these great professionals you can find them here:
Right now, we have a SportzFund raiser going to try to put a bit of money aside, not only for the Editing, Cover Art, and Formatting our authors need; but for the UIB we were in the middle of having processed when we had two authors (who I had instilled trust in) take us for a lot of money in unpaid royalties, which were supposed to go to the UIB. Our reach is small at the moment, since we’re still growing as a label, and we really could use all the help we can get to get this done.
Because we care so much about people, we decided to start doing a yearly anthology for a random charity each year. The anthologies will release on the 24th of November each year. We are firm believers in helping out causes that truly do good for the people of the world.
This year, our debuting year, we’re releasing an Urban Fae anthology, which we’ve named On Dreaded Wings. 50% of the proceeds for the sales of this anthology will be donated to “Scares That Care” which is a 501(c)(3) all volunteer charity that helps sick kids and women fighting Breast Cancer. The other 50% is to help out the authors with the services they need to get published on time.
The anthology has ten of Wolf Paw Publications‘ authors and three of our staff who have graciously decided to write stories for this Anthology.
On Dreaded Wings centers around all manner of Fae from different countries and lore in an Urban setting. The theme of it is Phobias. Each author has chosen a different phobia for their story and just from the teasers alone; they’re going to be great stories that will hopefully help out a great cause.
We also have model Jason JC Kurtis who wants to be on the anthology cover. We call him our Unseelie Fae Lord now lol. We’re hoping the anthology does well so we can help out Scares That Care.
If you would like to know more about Scares That Care you can find them here:
Currently, we have seven books published, with two set for pre-order that will release in September; (See them in the scroll window below) as well as eight more books releasing throughout the rest of the year.
Thank you, Chris, for giving me a chance to tell the world about Wolf Paw Publications and what we do here. It means a lot to me that you offered me a chance to tell our story to you wonderful fans.
