  1. Great article! I work with an in-school program that spends 20% of its time with guest speakers. How could an author relate with a careers class?

    • Kylie, an independent author these days is also an entrepreneur. We have to have knowledge of not only writing related subjects but also marketing, promotion, computer software, technology, social media… and the list keeps on going. Also, when we are writing a book we become researchers! The way each individual author does his or her research is an interesting topic. We make great guest speakers at any learning level -not only elementary or high school- because the process of writing and creating is fascinating and could be applied to any other areas of education. In my case, being a bilingual author, gives me a plus: I could speak to a crowd of ESL learners or a conversional Spanish group about the challenges of writing in a different language. If your program ever wants to consider me as a guest speaker, I would feel honored! 🙂
