What is a “Blog”?

“Blog” is an abbreviation for “Web log,” which is typically an online journal or newsletter maintained by an individual that is intended for the general public and is updated on a regular basis.  Many blogs provide commentary on a certain subject while others function as an online journal.  Blog entries are most often displayed in reverse chronological order and display other material such as graphics and videos.

The authors of blogs are called bloggers.  Bloggers typically write about topics that are important to them, so the blogs often reflect the personality and views of the blog author.  Many bloggers invite readers to post comments on what has been published on the blog, which has the potential to result in many interesting and informative online discussions.

  1. Well, some of us “seniors” (and I didn’t know I was back in high school) are self-publishing our own science fiction and need blogs to help get the word out. That undoubtedly is a form of dementia that can be fed but not cured by blogging! LOL
