Yes – this is a very good point. It’s one thing to manage the images we use ourselves, but we also need to be vigilant about images we reblog and not assume the original blogger has the rights to use it.

I’ve actually started wondering about reblogging, in part because of this photo issue, but also because the author of something I reblogged months ago has been emailing me recently asking me to re-reblog that post, because he made changes to it and doesn’t want the previous version floating around. Well, it turns out WordPress doesn’t let you reblog a second time; in the end I just removed the post from my blog. Stuff like that makes me uneasy, as does the prospect of getting hit with copyright infringement for something I did with no intent to infringe. So I’ll be thinking twice about reblogging, and my posts from now on will show only photos I’ve taken myself or paid for.
