  1. I am very much a trad publishing guy. Having an entity with a vested interest in your book’s success, in my opinion, makes a difference. One reason good writers don’t get publishing offers is they’re going at it wrong. Perhaps the biggest mistake I’ve seen people make is pitching to the wrong agents or publishers. Another is stopping too soon. Query everybody who might be appropriate! Before querying, don’t be afraid to send an email to an agent or publisher asking if they have any interest in your kind of book, without submitting a pitch or any other material. Many won’t respond, but the ones who do will help you identify where you’ll have the best chances for success.
