This post from the Story Reading Ape answers some basic questions about choosing a format for a POD edition of a book. I’m working on that right now!

Tweeted this–I’ve been measuring other people’s fiction books, both self- and traditionally published, in preparation for formatting my own for Ingram and CreateSpace. This answers some questions. Most I’ve checked seem to fall in the 5 X 8 or thereabouts family. Thanks!

Here is a great infographic on book sizes although CreateSpace seems to lock us into the 6X9 format.

I’ve seen in bookstore, odd sized novels unlike these standard sizes. I have to confess I don’t like them. Of course these are produced by the big publishers, always looking to stand out and to draw attention. They are more pain than they are worth. Only my opinion. I’m not against change. We can’t avoid that, but please–

I know what you mean Tess, too big to fit in the shelves and too heavy to hold up and read.
Or WORSE – print is too small to read and comes off in your fingers…

Egg-zack-tel-ly.
I don’t believe I’ve had the ‘comes off in your fingers experience, although I have had 30 pages missing in a pocketbook (never included). The page numbers showed 30 missing as well.

Very interesting. Had not thought about the size in relation to the genre. 🙂
