How reviews help writers… I didn’t know Amazon worked this way…

Did YOU know this?

I didn’t know Amazon worked  this way… I sure could use the reviews. I know there’s enough people who bought it. Review review people!

  1. I’ll toss in an observation about the number of reviews and placement rankings. I’m still struggling with obscurity, so this may only be true for those of us still down in the depths of the lists. However, for my first book, I’ve got 9 reviews – all of them very (amazingly) good – 4 and 5 stars. I tend to hover around the half-way point for the ranks, usually just “above the fold”. (Imagine the list printed on one continuous list and then folded in half). Even with the new review that has come in recently, it hasn’t done much to pull my rank up, but I HAVE seen that particular book pop up on other mid-to-low ranking book’s “also looked at” and “also bought” pages.

My second book, with only 4 reviews doesn’t have the “also bought”, but it does have the “also looked at” panel. The only real difference between the two pages is the number of books on offer. With the first, I’ve seen upto 8 books offered. With the second, I’ve only seen 3 (though, it could be because noone has looked at it except me, and I’m bouncing in from my other books.)

Not sure if that gives any insight, just what I’ve noticed with my own work.
