Zoe’s Favorite Game

Zoe’s Favorite Game

Good morning, my friends! Today I’d like to tell you about my favorite game. I play many games with my human, but I really enjoy this one in particular. First, for any reader who might not know us, my human’s name is Emily and I am Zoe. Some call me The Fabulous Feline; I do not disagree. But back to the topic of this story.

My favorite game involves running and hiding. I’ve heard it called Hide ‘n Seek. Usually, I let Emily know I want to play or need some attention by jumping at her legs, boxing them (claws in, of course) as she walks by me. I don’t do that every time she walks by. On the other paw, I do it often enough to ensure she is aware of my presence. Sometimes I do it to lead her into a game of Hide ‘n Seek because this is how it goes: I box her legs, she turns toward me abruptly and pretends to be mad. I pretend to be afraid and run away to hide, and then she looks for me. Works every time!

I love Hide ‘n Seek for a few reasons; first, I move faster than my human and am small enough to hide in many places. Second, with my super sense of smell, I can find her easily. As the saying goes—she can run but she can’t hide.

One day, I hid behind a curtain. She looked everywhere for me; finally she came to where I was hiding and poked at the curtain. I poked back ever so gently, just to let her know I was aware of her and what she had done. She thought that was cute, I guess, because she poked the curtain once more. No response. Again she poked. And again I sat very still. Not one muscle twitch from this body, not one meow from this mouth.

Then, just when I sensed she was about to poke the curtain again, I rose like a cobra and poked first. Bada-bing! I could sense her surprise; well, ok . . . the little squeal she made gave it away too. She started to poke the curtain again, rapidly and in different places, to get me to respond but I waited her out. When she thought I had stopped playing, I rose up and surprised her again.

Sometimes—and I think this is great fun—sometimes I let her believe I really am not playing anymore. I sit there still and silent until she gets tired of her futile poking. (I can be patient when I want to be.) Sighing and bored, she walks away. That’s when I jump out, run up to her and box her legs.

Only I get to say when the game is over.

    • Hello Aurora! Did I ever tell you how much I love your name? And that has nothing to do with the fact that you told me I’m the best…nada, nope, no way! Seriously, I do love your name and that you have four fabulous felines, just goes to show you are classy and really do have wonderful taste. Thanks for reading my story! (Which reminds me that I have to write another one very very soon…)

  1. Hi Zoe. My name is Pinky. My human sits around writing on her laptop all day. I worry about her health, so the game I play is “Ring around the Rosie.” I make my human let me out the door. Then I run around to the window and make her let me in. We do that every ten minutes all day. It she stops, I scratch the house trim to shreds. It works great – my human gets lots of exercise 🙂

  2. Great game, Zoe! Especially since you are in the driver’s seat. I like to pounce on my human’s hand under the blanket at night – but sometimes I forget about the claws. After all, it’s a monster under there. Purrfect story. Elijah Moon

  3. Oh, I don’t know about that, Danny. I seem to recall a game you play with your human now and then . . . “find the chicken bone before Andrew finds me” . . . but I do not deny that you are one cool canine!
