A really interesting post. You could add English bards from the Middle Ages and the Native American shaman, who recite history in story form.

What a wonderful post; I thoroughly enjoyed reading, and sharing, it. Thank you. We are, if we are lucky – and I was – born into story-telling; it is an integral part of our childhood experience, and I have long felt (as mother, writer and ex English teacher), that we are the poorer for the lack of it. This post, with its fascinating look at so many cultures, gives me both hope and inspiration.
