I’m plenty old enough to be called a curmudgeon and I’ve occasionally written a post where I assume that appellation.
A couple of observations have occurred to me lately that fall under that category.

I’m commenting here because it’s hard to comment on a blogging site other than one’s own. Parts of Lorinda’s post felt so true for me, I could have written them myself. I agree that writers should be capable of editing their own work. I think a lot of the tut-tutting about those “fools” who edit themselves comes from editors trolling for work. And yes, with the best will in the world it’s hard to find readers. It figures — with all of us indies let free to publish, we’re all drowning in books. It’s essential to temper your expectations and redefine what constitutes success for you.

Thanks for the comment, Audrey! I’m surprised by how many people have responded positively to my post! I figured people would see it as a lack of humility, or perhaps self-delusion!

Thanks, Chris! I’m floored at the positive reactions to this post! I thought it would be perceived as arrogant and intolerant – or overly secure, maybe. Aren’t authors supposed to be insecure and defensive about their books? 😉 I’ve always just loved my own books, but I never expect everybody to like them, because tastes differ. But I hope nobody finds them poorly edited. Btw, Jack Eason also reblogged this.

You’re not as isolated as you think Lorinda 😀
I know Jack blogged it as well, but I didn’t want to confuse people by reblogging HIS reblog OF YOUR article LOLOL
BTW – Many thanks for mentioning me in your post 😀
