Hello, everyone. Today we bid farewell to June. However, it is still June. The July issue of “Dead of Winter” is on schedule for release on the first Wednesday of the month. (Although I don’t commit to a firm publication schedule, that’s my own generally desired date.) I’m sharing some of my writing process today. Don’t worry — no spoilers.

I’ve mentioned that I draw inspiration from existing mythology and locations, because it gives the reader’s imagination a subtle, perhaps subconscious prompt to fill in details. The “world” in Dead of Winter includes many countries. I wanted two of them to remind you of Ireland and Scotland, so I researched Celtic mythology. There I came across a truly fearsome creature, which first appears in Journey 5, Llyn Pistyll Falls. Although that isn’t the last we’ll see of it.

  1. Many thanks for sharing, Chris. My little corner of the world is finally getting a weather break, after a full month of 100 degree temperatures. We even got rain for two days! It feels like the earth is singing.
Of course so many other areas are still suffering. I’m just grateful to finally get some relief. Hugs on the wing.
