Notes from a small dog: Pets and fireworks…

Sue Vincent's Daily Echo

She says it is fireworks season again…which means loads of pops, bangs and fizzes. Two-legses may like them… four-legses, not so much. I used to be really scared…

But I’m all growed up now and my two-legs is pretty well trained; she closes the curtains for me, puts the noisy box on to cover the bangs and makes sure I have somewhere safe and cosy to snuggle though I usually just hide sit under her desk to protect her..

She says most two-legses are pretty good about that sort of thing. But, just in case, there are loads of things you can do… so I thought I’d share the RSPCA’s advice video. You can visit their page here too for other creatures… like horses. They get nervous of everything anyway…I’m not even allowed to say hello to them… so fireworks must really spook them.

Enjoy your fireworks… but keep us…

  1. Hi, Bobby Dog here. My human says that other than organized displays they should be banned. They scare me s***less. I turn into a quivering wreck and try to climb into the most inappropriate places to get away from them. And it’s not as though it is only one night of the year here. There is a firework maniac living nearby and they start letting the things off in mid October, just three or four a night but EVERY night, 20 mins apart, until the New Year, but even then there is no respite as they let them off on St David’s Day, St George’s Day, St Andrew’s Day, Easter, Whitsun, and every Bank Holiday. If I knew how to work a match I’d stick one up his **** and light the fuse! And it’s not just me it affects but my human too because she spends half the evening either unhooking me from around her neck or preventing me from climbing on the computer which means she can’t get any writing done 😦

    • Hey Bobby, I’m with your two-legs on that. Special occasions are fine, but not every night! Mine is going to gsee her grandpup’s fireworks in a minute…but she’ll be back before it gets dark so I won’t be on my own.
