Before you read this post, I want to tell you a story about an indie writer who got her big break because of a book review.
I went to a Town Hall lecture today in Fresno, CA.
Thousands of us sat spellbound listening to this indie author tell us her story of being a single mom wondering how she was going to hold her life together after she went through a divorce. She decided she wanted to write.
She sent query letters to 100 agents.
In two paragraphs or less, they all turned her down except two.
Those two said it was highly improbable as a topic because people were afraid to talk about it.
For a year and a half, she researched and wrote.
She took acting lessons because she had never written before, but the book begged to be written.
She wrote about a misunderstood group of people.
Literary agents did not dare to venture into their world.
“Why don’t you write a non-fiction book?” one of the agents told her.
