International Women’s Day 2017

University of Glasgow Library

March 8th marks International Women’s Day, a day that celebrates the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women worldwide.  This year’s campaigning theme is Be Bold For Change, so we thought it appropriate to showcase some of the University’s inspirational women.  Many of these women fought for a women’s right to access higher education such as Isabella Elder and Jessie Campbell , or were pioneers in their respective male dominated fields such as Ruth Pirret or Kate Fraser.

An exhibition highlighting women at the University is currently on display at the Level 2 foyer Gallery in the Library, where we will be displaying a selection of material from library collections.  A variety of items are showcased within the display case, including the 1883 application for the establishment of a college for women and photographs of various all female graduating classes.
