Seedy Sunday is the UK’s biggest community seed swap. It takes place every February in Brighton and Hove and this year it is on February 5th from 10.30am to 4pm
It has its roots (couldn’t resist) in a 2001 holiday to Vancouver, Canada. Two members of a local organic gardening group happened upon a seed swap while they were away, and brough the idea back with them. The UK’s first seed swap took place the following Februay in Brighton. It’s a community fair, where growers exchange or give seeds away (for a donation) from plants they have grown themselves. Many are ‘heritage’ varieties, often no longer commercially available, but are naturally well adapted to local growing conditions.
This year Seedy Sunday is held at Brighton and Hove’s Sixth Form College on the Old Shoreham Road. Click here for a map
