  1. Hello! There’s a lot of debate among scholars as to whether we should use only ‘said’ as a dialogue tag or replace it with a more interesting word. I’m trying to figure out a way not to use dialogue tags at all or at least as few as possible. This is a great list though. Thanks for always thinking of us, Chris! 😀 xx

    Please, please don’t use these nice, fun words all over the place instead of said. Use them sparingly! 🙂

    Why, you ask?

    Because it’s taking the easy way out. It’s telling the reader the emotion instead of showing it.

  3. Fun chart! Unfortunately, my editor doesn’t like me to use a lot of words other than said. Her comment was that they can distract from the flow of a conversation. But occasionally I still slip them in!
