HTB New Front Cover with gold frame 429 pxlsA novel that takes you to the world of Waldeyn, and a medieval alternate reality. Fleeing a burning city, everything he ever loved in ashes behind him, penniless and hunted, Huw the Bard must somehow survive. Available as an ebook and in paper.
The youngest master in the Bards Guild, eighteen-year-old Huw Owyn is at the top of his craft. The Spring Conclave is underway, and Huw is late to the ceremonies. While he lingers with his lady, the Bard’s Guild is attacked. Seeking to become the heir of most powerful man in the valley, Earl Rann Dwyn hangs the Guild Master, Huw’s father. His thugs torch the hall with everyone still inside, burning a quarter of the city with it.
Smuggled out of the burning city in a reeking ale barrel, Huw is a wanted man. Starving, reduced to begging and worse, he must somehow make his way north to safety. It’s a 200-league walk, as the crow flies, to the one place he might have a friend, though the path Huw must take is anything but straight. Murder, rape, and the taint of treason – a lot can happen to a man on journey like that.

  1. I still remember the time before they agreed to share the children and grandchildren. That’s probably when the drinking began. That was followed, thank goodness, by the writing. Those fantasy stories literally saved her! Who knows what’s possible now? (And by the way, the barista in Huw the Bard was modeled after me.) Keep going, Connie!

  2. Reblogged this on Forget the Viagra, Pass Me a Carrot and commented:
Thanks Chris for another interesting blog – what fascinates me is the writers behind some of our best fantasy. Most are mums and dads who started by telling their children stories and then put pen to paper – here we have vegan mum and grandmother who is a great example. Perhaps along with the gift of stimulating the minds of children when we read to them or tell them stories, the very act itself triggers off a dormant part of the brain where fantasy lives like a sleeping dragon.
